On one hand, India is about to ink an arms supply deal with Myanmar, supplying the latter with Indian made military weapons while on the other thousands of armed Buddhist protesters in Myanmar have engaged in protesting and blocking the UN aid vehicles by throwing crude bombs at them. At the global stage, Russian and Chinese response to the worldwide humanitarian call is still somewhat confusing. All in all, the dirty politics surrounding the plight of a helpless Muslim community compels us to ask – is it the
right time to engage in self-seeking dirty politics while preventing the Rohingya victims from accessing to foreign aid and relief materials?
We severely condemn the manmade obstructions, politics and business that are manipulating a humanitarian crisis. In the wake of mounting global condemnation we urge the Myanmar authorities at least to ensure quick delivery of relief goods to the Rohingya people. Simultaneously, India too should not forget that, its selling of weaponry could well be used to kill and drive out the Rohingyas. If that happens – India will also become a participant in carrying out the destruction of the helpless community in a different capacity.
Early on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump called on the UN Security Council to take “strong and swift action” to end the violence. It was the strongest US government response yet to the violence.
Even then so much depends on the role of our government. Foreign Secretary still regards Myanmar as a friendly country in a radio interview with BBC yesterday. We have to be strong to get strong step from our friends worldwide. We have to condemn the brutalities inside Myanmar with powerful voice for punishment for committing genocide and assert powerfully the citizenship of Rohingyas.
Diplomats say the Security Council could consider adopting a formal statement if the situation does not improve, but China and Russia are unlikely to agree on any strong action that would require the adoption of a resolution they could veto.
