State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haq Chunnu Monday said the informal laborers would be brought under insurance coverage gradually.
“The present government is working relentlessly for the welfare of the labourers,” he said speaking as chief guest at a function on the occasion of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation and Bangladesh Motor Vehicle Mechanic Workers Foundation at the meeting room of the ministry, said an official release.
The state minister said the motor vehicle mechanics or workers are playing an important role by keeping the vehicles fit for plying across the country.
The workers in this informal sector are working under risks, he said, adding that they are being deprived of financial benefits in absence of a legal system of compensation for death or injury.
Therefore, an initiative has been taken to introduce a group insurance for them under Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation Act, 2006, he said.
