National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Wednesday said the Commissionerates have been asked to
identify the influential tax dodgers aiming to increase revenue income. “We have already directed the officials concerned to bring all big businessmen under tax net. The commissioners are now identifying them,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of a six-month foundation training course arranged for the newly appointed tax commissioners under the 36th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) at BCS (Tax) Academy in the city’s Shantinagar area.
Chaired by BCS (Tax) Academy director general Bazlul Kabir Bhuiyan, the inaugural session was addressed, among others, by NBR member (Tax Admin) Zia Uddin Mahmud, and Bangladesh Civil Service (Taxation) Association president and commissioner of Tax Zone-8 Selim Afzal.
Mentioning that files of the important taxpayers are being identified, the NBR chairman said: “Besides this, we are trying to extend tax area by bringing the tax-dodgers, who are owners of house and flats, under tax net”. Stressing the need for bringing all the taxable people living in the rural areas under tax net, Mosharraf said skilled officials have been appointed at rural level to this end.
He also emphasized on increasing the number of e-TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) holders.
He urged the new tax commissioners to take awareness programmes to encourage people for paying tax.
