India kept domination on the second day as the hosts declared their first innings making 687 for the loss of six wickets against the touring Bangladesh in their lone Test match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, India on Friday.
In reply, Bangladesh scored 41 for the loss of one wicket before the bails were drawn for the second day.
India piled up 356 for the loss of three wickets on the first day (Thursday).
Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 111 and 45 runs respectively.
Virat Kohli converted his century into double century. Virat Kohli notched up 204. His 246-ball innings was studded with 24 boundaries. Kohli reached his two hundred run landmark using 239 balls.
Kohli and Rahane added together 222 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Rahane was caught at the short cover by Mehedi Hasan Miraz off Taijul Islam when the hosts’ total was 456 for the loss of four wickets. Rahane hit 82 from 133 balls including 11 fours. It was Rahane’s 10th Test half century.
After dismissal of Rahane, Virat Kohli and Wriddhiman Saha added together 39 runs in the fifth wicket partnership before Kohli was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam when India’s score was 495 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin added together 74 runs for the six-wicket stand before Ashwin was caught at the slip by Soumya Sarkar off Mehedi Hasan Miraz when India’s total was 569 for the loss of six wickets.
Saha remained unbeaten with 106. He hit seven fours and two sixes. It was his second century in Test cricket.
After departure of Ashwin, Saha and Ravindra Jadeja added together 118 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket stand before Virat Kohli declared the first innings.
Jadeja remained unbeaten with 60. His 78-ball innings was decorated with four fours and two sixes. It was his fifth Test half century.
Ashwin made 34 from 45 balls featuring four fours.
Taijul Islam captured three wickets at the cost of 156 runs, while Mehedi Hasan Miraz bagged two wickets for 165 runs.
Later, Bangladesh made a modest start as opener Soumya Sarkar (15) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha off Umesh Yadav when the tourists’ total was 41.
Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten with 24.
