IBA teachers of DU demand early release of fellow

Teachers and students of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday demanded unconditional release of Institute of Business Administration’s (IBA) teacher Khaled Mahmud.
They also demanded justice and withdrawal of all false and fabricated cases filed against him.
The demands came from a human chain organized by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of
DU at the base of Aparajeo Bangla on DU campus at around 11:30 am.
The teachers claimed that Khaled Mahmud was arrested on November 22 after filing two false and fabricated cases of rape and dowry against him and sent to jail.
Earlier on November 12, he sent divorce notification letter to his wife. After sending divorce letter, both cases was filed against him.
“We want justice and believe that truth must be revealed”, said the teachers.
They also sought the intervention of university administration as well as of the Vice-Chancellor regarding this.
Expressing solidarity with the demands, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) President Professor ASM Maksud Kamal said that Khaled Mahmud is a brilliant, ideal and popular teacher to his students.
“We are here to protest a disgraceful task. Khaled was disgraced immensely. They must exaggerate in filing the allegations. We always want justice, but any kind of guilty won’t be tolerated. Whoever took the attempt to harass the teacher must be punished,” added Maksud Kamal.
A student of IBA Khalid Mahmud said, “Arresting a DU teacher in this way and assaulting him in jail is definitely shameful. We are protesting against such vicious behaviour. We are giving ultimatum in this respect.
Calling upon everyone to protest any kind of disorderliness, IBA Director Professor Syed Farhad Anwar said, “We never let to happen anything wrong with our teachers and we will always protest against anything illegal”.
“We want justice and the result of defamation of DU teacher won’t be good. The punishment of the culprits must be ensured”, he said.
“If he is accused in rape case, it is easy to prove through medical test, but they don’t do that. How it can be possible to allege about dowry after six years of marriage”, said Rezaul Azim.
Former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh Professor Mizanur Rahman, Dean of Law Department Professor Rahmat Ullah, Assistant Professor of Economics Department Rushad Faridi, Professor A. B. M. Shahidul Islam of Marketing Department, IBA professor A. K. M. Saiful Majid, Professor Sutapa Bhattacharjee, Professor Akhter Hossain Khan, of Soil, Water and Environment Department also spoke after the human chain.
