Locals in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria staged a human chain on Monday, November 1 at 11 am demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of those accused of trying to rape a housewife. The human chain was held in front of Bijoynagar police station in the morning. Haji Md. Shiru Mia presided over the function, besides Gauss Mia, a local MP, Shamsunnahar, a victim of torture, and her husband Mannaf Mia, besides a large number of villagers.
Speakers at the human chain said that Rafiqul Islam Farooq (38) of Binnighat Uttar Para area of Budhanti Union of the upazila was often harassing Shamsnahanhar, the wife of Mannaf Mia, in different places. Following this, Rafiqul Islam (Faruk) and Shafiq Mia (42) entered the house of Mannaf Mia in Binnighat Uttar Para on the night of October 23 and tried to rape Shamsunnahar by threatening him with a sharp weapon. When the victim started screaming to protect her dignity, Rafiqul Islam (Faruk) and Shafiq Mia hit her in the neck with a sharp weapon and fled.
The next day when he went to lodge a complaint with Bijoynagar police station, the police started procrastinating. On October 25, the victim filed a case against two persons at the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal in Brahmanbaria. Case No. C-R 298. Section 9 (4) / (b) / 30.
