Formali-free drive: Huge fruits destroyed in dists

A mobile court destroyed around 1000kg formalin-treated mangoes, 9,000 litchis during drives at a wholesale fruit market in Kodomtaly area of the Sylhet city and fined five wholesalers.
The mobile court, led by Asaduzzaman, Anisur Rahaman deputy megistrate of Sylhet, conducted the drives at the market and found different types of seasonal fruits soaked in formalin.
The team fined four wholesalers Noorany Enterprise Tk 10,000, Atikur Rahman Tk 10,000, Chishtia Folbhander Tk 5,000, Babor Enterprise Tk 10,000, Sujon Enterprise Tk 10,000 each.
The team also seized the fruits and later destroyed them on Kodomtaly compound in the afternoon.
Drives will continue at fruit and kitchen markets regularly to resist harmful chemical-mixed fruits, Asaduzzaman said.
Barisal Correspondent reports: A mobile court of district administration on Wednesday operating drives at fruit wholesalers market in Port Road area of the city seized and destroyed formalin-mixed Mangos in Barisal city and fined four fruit-wholesalers total Tk 1 lakh. The drive was led by Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioners and district magistrate.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: A mobile court has destroyed 4200 kilograms of mango mixed with formalin and carbide and fined Taka 1.13 lakh against six traders in Baneshwar and Biraldaha Mango markets under Puthiya Upazila of the district on Saturday.
In Baneshwar Bazar, the traders got locked into a violent clash with police during the mobile court operation, said SM Bazlur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Puthiya Police Station. The OC said the district administration has conducted a mobile court led by Executive Magistrates Sheikh Hafizur Rahman and Alamgir Kabir in Baneshwar Bazar to prevent mixing of formalin and carbide in mango.
