Society for the Enforcement of Basic Rights (SEBR), a human rights organisation with the cooperation of the Weekly Notun Barta formed a human chain protesting conspiracy and withdrawal of cases against Prime Minister’s Media Adviser and The Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury in front of the Jatiya Press Club yesterday, says a press release.
Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Shaban Mahmud and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury were present as chief and special guests at the rally .
Shaban Mahmud said, a vested quarter has been hatching conspiracy against uncompromised journalist leader Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and demanded withdrawal of cases against him and journalist Mamunur Rashid.
Sohel Haider Chowdhury said, if the cases against journalists are not withdrawn, greater movement will be forged and on February 25, journalists across the country will be gathered in Dhaka city to protest the misdeeds of some lawmakers .
The human chain was addressed among others by former Treasurer of BFUJ Ataur Rahman, former President of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council Ashraful Islam, Editor of the Weekly Notun Barta Yousuf Ahmed Tuhin, journalist leader Obaidul Haq Khan and Sonali Khabor Editor Moniruzzaman Mia.
Secretary General of the organization Hemayet Hossain presided over the rally and it was conducted by Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC) General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad.
