A housewife was allegedly gang-raped on a running passenger bus at Narayanganj port city’s. Madanpur area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 10:30 pm on Sunday.
The police rescued the victim and arrested the accused bus driver and two assistants when the housewife contacted the emergency service number 999 after the incident.
The three arrestes were taken to court
on Monday. The arrested bus driver was identified as Nurul Haque (21) of Mashuria area of Mithamin upazila of Kishoreganj district. The two others arrested helpers were minors.
The victim housewife is a resident of Jatrabari area of the capital. According to the case statement, the housewife got into a passenger bus of Sayedabad-Gauchia route around 10 pm Sunday.
After reaching Shimrail area of Siddhirganj, all the passengers got off the bus.
Then the woman was sitting alone in the recorded to go to Gauchia of Bolta. After the bus reached Madanpur area the bus driver and two assistants raped the housewife by playing loud songs loudly.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station Deepak Chandra Saha told the media that the housewife had filed a case against three persons under the Women and Child Abuse Act on Sunday night.
The arrested bus driver has been remanded in court for seven days for questioning. The other two accused were not remanded as they were minors.
The housewife was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for physical test.
Meanwhile, the Muktijoddha Paribahan bus was seized from the spot and brought to the police station.
