A young housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws over a dowry-related conflict at Torabganj Bazar in Kamalnagar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Yasmin Akter Sweety, wife of Shourav Hossain, a resident of the same village.
Quoting family members, police said Shourav, son of Tariqul Islam, had married Sweety, daughter of Mayeen Uddin, a resident of Gourinagar village in Sadar upazila of the district, three years ago.
After their marriage, Shourav demanded some money as dowry from Sweety’s family and often tortured her.
Later, he took some money from Sweety’s family.
Recently, Shourav and his family members started forcing Sweety to bring money from her family.
Failing to get the money, Shourav and his family members beat Sweety mercilessly in the dead of night, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, they hanged the body with the ceiling of the house to make it appear that she committed suicide and went into hiding.
Informed, police recovered the body on Wednesday morning and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
