Historic May Day observed

The historic May Day was observed in the district and its adjacent upazila amid demand for the workers, ensuring their justified rights and demanding their safety in works places on Monday. Kishoreganj District Administration, ruling Awami League, CPB, BSD, Jasod, Gonotontree Party, Trade union and socio-cultural organisations arranged various programmes marking the day. A discussion meeting arranged by District Adminsitration held at Local Art Council hall on Monday morning. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas presided over the meeting. It was addressed among others by Zila Parished Chairman Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman, ADC (Gen) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, A.D.M Md. Abdul Awal, Poura Mayour Md. Pervez Mia, District Awami League President Advocate Kamrul Ahashan Shajahan, General Secretary M.A. Afzol, Additional Police Super Md. Rakib Khan, Gonotontree Party President Advocate Dolon Bhowmic, Labour Leader Adv Nazrul Islam Jowel, Press Club President Kazi Shaheen Khan, CAB Secretary Monoar Hossain Rony and Sadar UNO Abdullah Al Masud. A colourfull rally was brought out in the town led by DC Md. Azimuddin Biswas. Gouripur Correspondent adds: The historic May Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner on May 1, 2017. May Day commemorates the 1886 workers uprising at Haymarket in Chicago for their legitimate rights including eight-hour working day. Several agitating workers were killed. Political parties, trade unions and labour organisations in Gouripur Upazila took programmes to celebrate the Day.
