A female student of the Dhaka University has alleged the assistant of a bus driver sexually harassed her while travelling from her home in Manikganj to the capital.
The undergraduate student in her third year filed a complaint at Darussalam Police Station on Friday afternoon.
Sub-Inspector Khadizatuz Saleha said police were investigating the incident.
A friend of the victim told bdnews24.com she often goes to her home in Manikganj on holidays.
She was returning to Dhaka by a Shuktara Paribahan bus earlier on Friday to attend Saturday’s classes. She chose to sit alone in a row, as there were few passengers.
One of the helpers of the driver tried to sexually harass her when the bus crossed Singair at around 1:30pm.
He also allegedly used abusive language and tried to force her out of the bus when she protested.
The other passengers also protested against his advances.
Referring to the victim, her friend said another helper of the driver was calling the alleged harasser as ‘Mamun’.
She got off the bus at Gabtoli and went to the police station directly to file the complaint, her friend said.
