The High Court on Tuesday asked the government to explain why the eight prisoners, who have been serving jail without trial in different jails over ten years, should not be granted bail.
An HC bench comprising Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order following a petition filed by Supreme court Legal Aid service and asked the authorities concerned of respective jails and the government to explain it within 15 days.
The eight prisoners are-Sabbir Ahmed alias Dulal and Dana Mia, hailed from Brahmanbaria district, Saiful Alam of Sylhet, Ashadul alias Asa of Satkhira, Ashim Haldar, Takdir Mia of Kishoreganj, Saju Mia of Narayanganj and Jalal of Munshiganj. Of them, three have been languishing in Sylhet Central jail while the others in Satkhira, Bagerhat, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Munshiganj district jails in separate cases.
