HC rejects bail to Dhaka Bank VP Aminul

The High Court on Sunday rejected a bail petition of Md Aminul Islam, Vice President and In-Charge of Dhaka Bank’s Dhanmondi branch in a case filed over misappropriation of Tk 212.49 million by submitting fake bill papers.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam delivered the judgement after discharging a rule.
Advocate Hossain Mohammad Islam appeared in the court on behalf of the accused, advocate Mohammad Ashraf Uddin Bhuiyan appeared for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the State.
AKM Amin Uddin Manik said that the High Court on July 16 this year issued a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why the accused should not be granted bail. After hearing, the court discharged the rule for non-prosecution.
The case documents said, “The accused submitted 26 fake bill papers in the Dhaka Bank’s Dhanmondi branch and drew Tk 268.59 million against 17 bill papers. Later they returned Tk 56.11 million against four bill papers and embezzled Tk 212.49. They did it by abuse of power and fraudulently creating fake records.”
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case on December 23, 2018, against seven accused including Md Aminul Islam with the Dhanmondi Police Station.
The other accused of the case are Talha Shahriar Ayub, Chairman of Saimex Leather Products Limited, Tania Rahman, Director of Saimex leather products limited, Sulatana Fahmida, Dhaka Bank’s AVP, Bibhuti Bhusan Bala, owner of Mesers S and S agency, Sheikh Asaduzzaman Mintoo of Mesers Jaman Enterprise and Md Aminul Islam of Mesers Sadat Enterprise.
