The High Court on Tuesday formed a two-member judicial committee to probe into the reasons for failure of the concerned authorities to take appropriate measures for the eradication of Aedes Mosquitoes and to prevent Dengue and Chikungunia.
Dhaka District and Sessions Judge led probe committee’s another member will be an officer not below the rank of joint secretary of the Local Government Ministry.
The probe committee has to submit a report in the High Court on January 15, 2020.
The HC also asked the committee members to take experts’ opinions from the representatives of ICDDR,B, Department of Plant Protection, Institute of Public Health, and two Professors of Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University and from other relevant experts.
The HC Bench of Justice Tariq-ul Hakim and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after hearing a Suo Moto (voluntary move) rule issued earlier.
During yesterday’s hearing, Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mainul Hassan submitted a report of the Health Ministry to the HC saying that 112 people have died so far in dengue fever across the country this year.
Barrister Toufiq Inam Tipu submitted a report in the High Court on behalf of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) saying that the DNCC identified 612 breeding spots of dengue mosquitoes.
“DNCC is continuing a crashing programme which has already covered 45 percent area and will continue till November 20 this year. About 1620 labourers are working in 54 wards of DNCC,” said Barrister Toufiq.
