BNP’s Dhaka city unit convener and the party vice-chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka on Wednesday announced to step down from his post of the city committee. He also proposed the name of three senior leaders of the party for the post. They are: ASM Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas and Abdul Awal Mintoo.
He was addressing a press conference at Bhashani Auditorium in the city. “I have already conveyed my decision to party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. I have also proposed the three names for the post.
Khoka has taken the decision to quit, amid widespread criticisms inside the party about his ‘dubious’ role during the movement ahead of the January-5 election.
Recently, Khaleda Zia came down heavily on the city unit leaders for their poor performance during movement. The party’s standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party, at its recent meeting also took the decision of reshuffling the city committee, sources said.
Khoka, however, claimed that they did not fail in the street movement. He performed responsibly for long 17 years successfully, he added.
Sources said that a new 21-member convening committee with ASM Hannan Shah as the convener of the city committee is likely to be announced within a short time.
The sources added that few other senior leaders of the party, including standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, were also asked to take the responsibility. But they refused to take the responsibility.
