Govt using extremism for pol purposes: BNP

The BNP on Thursday accused the government of using the issue of extremism to gain politically.
“The government wants to exploit militancy issue for political purposes instead of responding to the BNP’s call for national unity against extremism,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP leader told it to the reporters on the premises of grave of late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital along with leaders and activists of Narayanganj district BNP unit’s new committee.
Mirza Fakhrul said, a vested quarter has been working to establish extremism in the country because of lack of fair investigation into the issues.
He said that in most cases, it has been found that the arrested suspects were being killed without producing them in the court. So, some mystery about extremism remained.
Replying to a question, he said, that as an election-oriented party, the BNP is always prepared for election. He also said that the party would take decision about election after announcement of election schedule.
Mirza Fakhrul accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of violating the election code of conduct asking vote for Awami League’s election symbol Boat by enjoying and using
the government’s privileges. Narayangonj district unit BNP President Kazi Muniruzzaman, General Secretary Professor Mamun Mahmud, city unit President Abul Kalam and General Secretary ATM Kamal, among others, were present.
