Govt to introduce seaweed in dietary system

Climate change is the most important challenge of the time faced by farmers. To meet the food shortage in future, the government plans to introduce seaweed in people’s dietary system for its nutritious value, said Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury in the city on Wednesday.

“I believe that the economy pursued by us will usher in a new horizon of success creating a win-win situation in improving sub-regional and international economic relations and expanding trade and commerce, and investment,” Hasina said. She said the economy of Bangladesh will be at the centre stage of the regional economy of Asia while Local Supply Chain and Global Value Chain will play an important role in regional and sub-regional communication and connectivity. The Prime Minister underscored the need for improving relation of mutual cooperation with neighboring friendly countries and international arena to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Hasina also noted that her government has been working with a far-reaching goal to ameliorate its standings on various indexes like Cost of Doing Business Index of World Bank, Global Competitive Index of World Economic Forum and UN Human Development Index aimed at turning Bangladesh into a developed economy.
Referring to a report of the UK-based multinational company ‘Price Water House Coopers’, she said Bangladesh will become the 29th economy of the world by 2030 and 23rd by 2050. To achieve this goal, she said, desired employment opportunities will have to be created through sustainable economic development, industrialisation, trade expansion, boosting remittance, developing infrastructure and improving education and healthcare services. Hasina mentioned that the government is providing lucrative incentives to attract foreign investment while steps have taken to build 100 Special Economic Zones across the country to attract domestic and foreign investment. Besides, a high-tech park on 355 acres of land is being constructed at Kaliakoir with a target to employ 10 lakh people in IT sector by 2021 and exporting goods of 5 billion dollars a year, she added.
