Staff Reporter :Secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon on Sunday said the government should stop mass arrest, filing cases, attack and firing at the leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance. In an instant reaction to the High Court’s ruling regarding the hartal and blockade, he said they wanted people’s safety during hartal and blockade but it is also equally important to stop firing and mass arrests of the alliance leaders and activists. “The oppositions organize their programmes in peaceful manner but the law enforcers are preventing them. They are firing at the oppositions without any instigation. We also want the government to stop it,” Khokon, who is also the joint secretary general of BNP, said. “We have only one demand of holding hold a free and fair election and establish democracy in the country. But the government is not paying heed to that. Instead, it is not even allowing the food supply to the three-time prime minister also,” he said, asking that what kind of democracy that was. The High Court on Sunday asked the government to take effective measures to stop violence and sabotage in the name of hartal and blockade.
