Convener of the Gono Odhikar Parishad Dr Reza Kibia on Saturday held the government responsible for the current deteriorating situation of the country’s economy.
He called upon the professional bodies to come forward to salvage the country.
He said this while addressing a discussion meeting on “Role of Professionals to Establish Democracy and Good Governance” organised by Peshajibi Odhikar Parishad in the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
“The Awami League government is sucking the blood of the people. The government is responsible for the current situation of the country. The government has destroyed the country’s economy by corruption,” he added.
Criticising the government he said, “The government has dragged the country’s economy on the verge of destruction. The works of the current government has to be projected before the people. The professional bodies can play a major role here.”
He also said that the government has no headache in preserving country’s culture, politics, social infrastructure and tradition rather their intention is to ruin.
Reza Kibria urged the people to form a movement to topple the government in the days to come.
He regretted that many professional, brave and intelligent people are leaving the country as they don’t find an environment in the country to work freely.
“We could use honest and good people for the betterment of the country. But they are leaving the country. Some people will return but rest of them will stay in foreign lands,” he observed.
Chairman of the Bangladesh Kalyan Party Major General (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim said, “The democracy is on the verge of destruction now. The electoral system has collapsed. The opposition parties are not participating in the election. People are also not taking part in the election process.”
Regretting the collapse of the democratic institutions, he said, “We have to wage another Liberation War to establish democracy. It will be a war of intelligence, a war of pens, a war to sacrifice for democracy. All the professional bodies have to work together.”
“The government has established one-party rule in the country. It is time to restore democracy. The professional bodies have to be united to wage movement against the government’s misrule,” Member-Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad Nurul Haque Nur said.
