Under the programme, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Md Manzarul Mannan distributed 30kg foods, two bundles of CI sheet, Tk 6,000 for rebuilding home and two blankets to each family.
During distribution programme, the DC said, “The government had taken stern action against those who had tried to destroy the communal harmony in the region which is existing here for ages.”
He also assured that legal action is being taken against the killers of Nurul Islam Nayan.
Ministers and high government officials also visited Langadu arson attack areas and talked to the victims at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s order, the DC said.
The Langadu upazila parishad chairman, the UNO, the UP chairman and members were, among others, present in the programme.
Tension had brewed between the hilly people and Bangalee settlers over the death of Nayan on June 1.
Later, over hundreds of dwelling houses in Kanthalbagan area were torched on June 2.
Bangalees claimed that hilly people killed Nayan. Denying the allegation, they said Bangalees torched their houses.
