BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Friday accused the government of obstructing the party’s reorganising process at the grassroots level.
“We are not allowed to do politics. We are trying to hold councils at the district and upazila levels to reorganise our party, but the government is obstructing the process,” he said.
Mosharraf Hossain said, a Dhaka court issued an
injunction on holding the council of their party’s student-front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), which was scheduled to be held on Saturday.
“We are trying to overhaul our party and its associate bodies in a democratic manner, but the government is trying to jeopardize our democratic practice.” He added.
Mosharraf Hossain was speaking at a sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club arranged by Swadhinata Forum, to raise voice for the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
On Thursday, a court here issued an ad-interim injunction on holding JCD’s council upon its former Assistant Religious Affairs Secretary Md Aman Ullah Aman’s filing of a case seeking a permanent injunction on it.
Mosharraf said that JCD’s council was obstructed as part of blocking the democratic process in the country.
He said, “The government has kept Khaleda Zia in jail with a hidden motive. She is the first female Prime Minister of the country who freed the country from the grip of the autocratic ruler HM Ershad and established Parliamentary democracy. She is also the symbol and mother of democracy.”
The Awami League has sent our leader in jail to make their passage to power easy, added Khandaker Mosharraf.
He said it was Awami League which had introduced one-party BAKSAL rule in 1975, contrarily BNP founder Ziaur Rahman established multiparty democracy.
BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Co-Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, Krishak Dal Convening Committee members Lion Mia Md Anwar, M Jahangir Alam were present and Executive Committee Member Abu Nasser Mohammad Rahmatullah presided over the meeting.
