Govt implements plans to reduce traffic jam in capital, JS told

The government is implementing different short, mid and long term programmes to reduce traffic congestion in the capital. Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Syed Ashraful Islam told the Jatiya Sangsad on Monday in reply to a tabled question from lawmaker Abdur Rauf of Kushtia-4 constituency.
Under Strategic Transport Plan (STP), different authorised bodies of the government are undertaking and implementing various schemes for minimizing traffic gridlock in the capital, the minister said.
Under the short-term plan, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has undertaken and is implementing regular eviction programmes to reduce the traffic congestion, the minister added.
Ashraf said the DNCC is also improving a 60 feet wide road from Mirpur Eye Hospital to Post Office at Mirpur-2 under the road development project from Mirpur Grameen Bank to Agargaon.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken a plan to construct several intersection grade separators and vehicular underpasses in the capital.
