Govt failed to stand beside flood victims, says Khaleda

UNB, Dhaka :BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday alleged that people in the country’s flood-affected areas are going through untold sufferings due to the government’s apathy to stand beside them with adequate relief materials.In a statement, she said, “The flood victims have been left reeling from serious miseries without food,pure drinking water and medicine. The government is indifferent and inactive about facing this catastrophic situation.”The BNP chief also alleged that the government still could not take any effective step to reach enough relief materials to the flood victims to assuage their sufferings.She observed that thousands of houses, huge crops and farmlands were devastated by the flooding.Besides, Khaleda said, many roads in the flood-hit areas went under water, and many educational institutions remained closed, hampering academic activities. “Villages after villages, dams and markets are going in the river gorge as riverbanks erosion has turned worse in different districts… I don’t have suitable words to extend my sympathy to the sufferers.”
