Small and marginal farmers of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in the district are greatly benefiting from gourd origin ”nice-green” cultivation growers selling at lucrative price in the local markets recently.
A large number of small & marginal farmers of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in the district are benefiting from this vegetable produce crop & it selling.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office sources said, a total of 305 hectors of land have been brought under gourd cultivation origin ”nice-gourd” where production target at 7,350 metric tonnes (MT) and about 3,700 farmers involved this gourd farming this year, sources added.
Suranjan Biswas (32), a local farmer of village Raghunathpur Purbopara under Sadar Upazila said, he cultivated gourd origin ”nice-green” on 50 decimal of land this year but it growth condition is satisfactory. If the weather condition is remain unchanged but I will got 5 tonnes of gourd from it produce. Which market price is taka 1,50,000 where expending about taka 40,000 only, Suranjan said.
Prodip Kumar Halder, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Raghunathpur union under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation all kinds of vegetable including gourd farming for renowned at the union in Sadar Upazila and farmers in this region supplied 40% of vegetable to the district markets out of total demand of the market and 10 hectors of land have been brought under gourd cultivation origin ”nice-green” this season about 200 farmers involved this farming where about 250 tonnes of gourd produce they can able in the current season which market price is about taka 75 lac, Prodip added.
Monozit Kirttonia (36), a farmer of same village under Sadar Upazila in the district said, he cultivated gourd origin ”nice-green” on 30 decimal of land this season. The condition of its growth is good by this time I have sale from it produce (gourd) to the market taka 50,000 & rest gourd will be sale about taka 40,000, Monozit said, where spending taka 24,000 only.
Nitul Roy, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO), Gopalganj Sadar told The New Nation soil & weather in this region is favourable for vegetable farming but of the Raghunathpur union is renowned and farmer of the area is mass energetic not only that farmer of Sadar Upazila in this region in the district have been earning from different kinds of vegetable selling one third of their total income. As a result about 7,500 farmers under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila in the district have been involved this vegetable farming, UAO added.
