Good yield of Aus makes Gafargaon farmer happy

Farmers in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon are smiling at the bumper crop of Aus in the field. Every meal seems to have a golden color. Field after field has been painted golden. Farmers are smiling as the yield is better this season and the price is higher than last year.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, Char Algi, Pachbagh, Dutter Bazar, Tangabo, Rasulpur, Barbaria, Saltia, Usthi, Raona, Yashra and one of the 15 unions including 1 municipality to provide free fertilizer seed pesticide incentives among farmers. This year, farmers in Aus have cultivated Bri Dhan-75, Bri Dhan-48, Bina Dhan-19, Bri Dhan-72, and BR-28 paddy. Which is 1,600 hectares more than last year. In the last Aus season, the target level of paddy was 22,340 tons.
Rafiqul Islam, a farmer from Rasulpur Union, and Hafizul Akand Bachchu Mia, a farmer from Char Algi Union, said, “We have planted Aus in 64 kathas of land this year. The yield this year has been much better than last year. Moreover, the price of paddy in the market is much higher. This time there will be no loss to the farmers. Farmer Rafiqul Islam further said that the farmers are benefited as the Sheikh Hasina government has provided free seed fertilizer to the farmers.
Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Matiur Rahman said that the yield has increased due to the use of balanced fertilizer and planting of paddy seedlings at the right age.
Md. Anwar Hossain, Agriculture Officer of the Upazila, said that bumper yield of aus paddy has been achieved this year as compared to last few years. Because the cost of irrigation and fertilizer is less in Ause. Moreover, the yield has been higher than the target level. Paddy prices are good in the market. If there is such a price, the farmers of Gafargaon will benefit a lot.
 Md. Tajul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said that bumper yield of aus paddy has been achieved this year as the government has provided free seed fertilizer incentive to the farmers of Corona period. I am doing what the government needs to do to keep the farmers alive. He added that bumper yields of paddy have been achieved as about 1,500 farmers have been given free seed fertilizer incentives during the Aus season.
