A 22-year old Mithila, who was rescued from a city hotel in senseless condition on July 8, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
Mithila died while undergoing treatment at DMCH as she was admitted to the hospital with several severe injury marks in her body, said Azizul Haque, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mohamampur Police Station.
The deceased was rescued in a senseless state from room No.107 of Tajin Hotel in Shyamali after being informed by the hotel authorities at the night, the police official said.
The SI said that one Ashraf along with the girl, both hailed from Kasba upzila of Brahmanbaria, rented a room at Tajin Hotel at around 8:00am on the fateful day.
The duo claimed themselves as husband-wife to the hotel authorities, he said.
Ashraf left the hotel room saying that he will visit a doctor outside at around 12:30pm. Soon after leaving the room of Ashraf, noise of loud groaning was being heard from the room of the hotel. The hotel authorities then broke the door open and found the girl lying blood-stained, the SI said quoting the hotel manager.
Police tried to ascertain her identity by collecting her finger prints but they failed as she does not have any database, he said.
A doctor of the hospital said that someone tried to kill her by strangling. During the process, her brain did not receive enough oxygen, leading to this senseless state.
She was kept under observation at neurosurgery department of DMCH where her physical condition remained unchanged and showed no sign of improvement since then, he said.
The hospital authorities tried to provide Mithila with better care on humanitarian grounds, doctors at the DMCH said.
