UNB, Dhaka :
A gayebana janaza (token funeral prayers) for those killed along the Bangladesh-India border in recent times was held at Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday.
Under the banner of Bangladesher Nagorikbrindo (Citizens of Bangladesh), around 109 teachers and students took part in the token fu
anti-terrorismRajuMemorial Sculpture on the campus around 4pm.
Akram Hossain, a 4th-year student of DU Sociology department, conducted the janaza.
Citing a report, Brac University teacher Khandaker Muhammad Abdur Raquib said 1,185 Bangladeshis were killed along the border since 2001. “Besides, 1,118 others were injured and over 1,400 Bangladeshis made to disappear. Several women were also raped,” he said, calling for justice for the victims.
Umama Fatema, a 2nd-year student of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, said: “Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sometimes claims that the victims were involved with drug peddling and smuggling while the Indians are supplying the illegal items. Our BGB is seen trying to justify the issue. Also our government is trying to justify the extrajudicial killings inside the country.”
Meanwhile, Nasir Abdullah, an MBA student of Marketing department and an activist of Chhatra Federation, went on a sit-in protest at the base of Raju Sculpture protesting the border killings.
