Leaders and activists of the Gana Odhikar Parishad on Wednesday formed a cultural protest programme at Shahbagh, denouncing the price hike of essential commodities.
Gana Odhikar Parishad and its front organization activists in their hundreds orchestrated the cultural protests under the banner of Gana Sanskriti Parishad.
They criticised the government for failing to control prices of essentials by singing songs, poetry recitation and street-drama.
They called on the government to take effective steps to reduce the prices of essential commodities and weed out the market syndicates.
Addressing the cultural protests, the speakers said that common people were living a miserable life since the prices of almost every essential commodity went beyond their purchasing power of the low-income people.
Bin Yeamin Molla, president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and Ariful Islam Adib, general secretary of the organisation were present in the programme among others.
