UNB, Dhaka :The Election Commission on Sunday published the final updated voter list of 2016 across the country, showing some 44.32 lakh fresh voters with 4.6 percent growth rate.Like the previous update carried out in 2014, the share of women among the fresh voters is relatively low as the percentage of females is 47.38, while that of men is 52.62.A total of 44,32,927 fresh voters — 23,32,695 men and 21,00,232 women- became new voters in the update (conducted in 2015) posting 4.6 percent growth from the existing voters of 9,62,01,497 according to an EC release.Besides, he said, 7,35,871 dead voters, including 4,85,799 men and 2,50,072 women, were removed from the voter list during the update.Following the update, the total number of the country’s voters now stands at 9, 98, 98,553, including 5,03,20,362 men and 4,95,78,191 women.Now the share of men among the total voters is 50.37 percent, while that of women is 49.63 percent.On January 2, the Commission published the draft updated voter list to receive and dispose of complaint over the draft list. Earlier on July 25, 2015, the Election Commission started data collection of possible voters across the country with a predicted estimate of 2.5 percent growth of the existing voters.But the update exercise showed an unusual growth rate of 4.6 percent, which is much higher than the estimated 2.5 percent growth.
