BSS, Dhaka :
President Abdul Hamid on Monday stressed the need for building an illiteracy-free Bangladesh for overall development of the country.
“The people of all walks of life irrespective of their political affiliations should work together to free the country from illiteracy and it is the pledge of this year’s International Literacy Day,” he said in a message on the eve of the International Literacy Day-2015.
Terming the ‘human resources’ as the key to development of a nation, Abdul Hamid said literacy opens the door of acquiring knowledge and knowledge makes a man skilled and efficient, while the skilled people, considered as human resources, are important for development of the country.
The present government is pledge-bound to spread education and build an illiteracy-free Bangladesh and for this, the education policy-2010 had been formulated, he said.
As socio-economic development of the country is closely related to education, the President said Bangladesh has now become a lower middle income country and if the development activities continue it is expected that the country would become a middle income country before 2021.
