Four individuals and enterprises have been honoured with the 15th Bangladesh Business Award in recognition of their corporate achievements during the last year.
DHL Express and the Daily Star jointly recognised two entrepreneurs and two enterprises through a colourful event at a city hotel on Friday night.
Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) was recognised as the Best Financial Institution of the Year 2014, while Walton Group as the Enterprise of the Year 2014, Managing Director of Mohammadi Group Rubana Huq as the Outstanding Women in Business 2014, and Chairman of Summit Group Muhammaed Aziz Khan as the Business Person of the Year 2014.
Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Anis A Khan, Director of Walton Group SM Mahbubul Alam, Rubana Huq, wife of Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, and Muhammed Aziz Khan received the awards from Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhith said the country has done pretty well in the last 40 years although 16 years of the four decades ruled by military adventurism which had left the country’s growth stagnant taking the country backward.
He said the government and the private sector, which comprised 80 percent of the country’s economic activities, played the key role in Bangladesh’s progress.
Pointing at the entrepreneurs, the finance minister said some people have to take the country forwards with their spark.
Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam and Country Manager of DHL Worldwide Express (Bangladesh) Pvt Ltd Desmond Quliah also spoke on the occasion.
