Four ‘drug traders’ killed in ‘gunfights’

Four suspected drug traders were killed in separate “gunfights” in Rangpur, Bogura and Mymensingh districts during the ongoing countrywide anti-narcotics drive which was formally launched on May 12.
Among the deceased, two people were killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers while two drug dealers were killed in separate “gun battles” with Rangpur and Bogura police.
In Rangpur, Shahjahan Hossain alias Dabirul, 50, was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Kaunia upazila around 3:30am last night, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Saiful Islam, Additional Superintendent of Rangpur Police.
Police recovered 126 pieces of Yaba, 173 bottles of phensidyl, a pistol, a magazine and one around of bullet from the spot.
In Bogura, an alleged drug dealer, Liton alias Riten, 32, was killed in a “gunfight” with members of Detective Branch of (DB) of Police.
Police recovered 200 pieces of Yaba and two machetes from the scene, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of DB Nure-Alam Siddiquee.
There were five drug cases against Riten filed with Bogra Sadar Police Station, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sonaton Chakraborty.
In Mymensingh, police recovered the bullet-hit bodies of two suspected drug traders named Munna, 20, and Idris Ali, both hailing from Charkalibari area of Sadar Dakhshin upazila in the morning.
However, the victims’ family members claimed that some plainclothes police addressing themselves as members of DB picked Munna and Idris from Mashkanda Sheba Drug Rehabilitation Centre on June 1.
Mahmudul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said Idris and Munna are listed drug traders and accused in several cases.
Meanwhile, Syed Nurul Islam, Superintendent of Mymensingh Police, said Idris and Munna were killed in a “gunfight” over enmity among the drug traders.
