Two women garment workers were gang-raped in Ishwardi. The rape incident took place in Muladuli Sheikhpara area at Akhkshe on the side of the Agricultural Farm Road on Saturday .
In this incident, police raided and arrested four rapists. Among the arrested rapists are Al Amin (25) son of Baki Billah of Lakshikola village in Ishwardi, Abdur Rashid (35) son of deceased Amjad Hossain of Gopalpur of Baraigram police station in Natore, Mahidul Sardar (35) son of Naib Ali Sardar of Lakshikola village and Javed son of Chan Mia of Rajapur of Baraigram police station. (35). Another rapist is still at large.
The victim 2 women and accused were sent to Pabna court after filing a case at Iswardi police station on Sunday afternoon. Ishwardi police station officer in-charge Arvind Sarkar confirmed the incident.
According to the statement lodged at the police station and talking to the victims, Jannatul Akhtar Mim (22) of Bati village of Saghata upazila of Gaibandha district met Anjana Akhtar Maqsudar (25) of Yarpur area of Ashulia Ghosh Bagh while working in garments in Ashulia. Meanwhile, Anjana Akhtar Maqsuda’s identity and relationship developed in the name of Al Amin of Emo Garments. Because of this, Al Amin asked Maqsuda to come to meet him at Pabna’s Ishwardi.
To meet Al Amin, the two women arrived in the afternoon from Ashulia in Isharadi on Saturday afternoon. Al Amin, with the help of his friends, took them to a secluded area after 8 pm and gang-raped them. After being released, the victims took to the streets screaming half-naked. Meanwhile, a CNG driver running on the road rescued him and took him home and let him wash his clothes. Locals informed the police and brought the victim women to the police station around 10:30 pm.
Jannatul Akhtar Mim is married with 1 son and 1 daughter. And Anjana Akhtar Maqsuda is divorced. He is also said to have 1 son.
OC said that after hearing the statement of the victims, four rapists were arrested in the night in Kushtia and Baraigram areas. Police operation is on to arrest the other accused.
