Today is the 20th founding anniversary of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU). The university was established on 12th October in 1999 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to preserve the memory of the great leader Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. The university act published in 12 July 2002 and academic activities started in 25 October 2003.
This university was established in 57.95 acre area. It has 15 departments under 5 faculties. Now, it has 5937 students, 221 teachers, 222 officers and 313 employees. There are five halls: Jananeta Abdul Mannan Hall, Alama Khatun Bhashani Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman Hall, Sohid Ziaur Rahman Hall and Sohid Janani Jahanara Imam Hall for students.
Since its establishment, the university’s development process was very slow up to 2008. But now the present government is ensuring that the institution has an outstanding process. Considering the completed and the running projects, Dr Md Alauddin, the university’s new VC, identified the lack of the university and met President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to emphasize the need for the university’s development and the problems related with it. He also requested to have an early and fair solution of the problems by submitting a written development plan. The President and the PM confirmed to cooperate and ensured that all measure will be taken for speedy development of the university. With the continuation of this effort, the ECNEC dated on 25th October 2016, sanctioned a project named ‘Strengthening Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University’ worth BDT 345 core 77 lacks for the university with the strong leadership of the Vice Chancellor as a master plan for its infrastructural, academic and administrative development.
Under this authorized project, 12.74 acre land has been accorded. Besides this, a 12 storied academic cum research building, a 10 storied administrative annex, upward expansion of 3rd, 4th & 5th floor of Jananeta Abdul Mannan Hall for the 250-students capacity, construction of 10 storied Sheikh Fazelatunnesa Mujib Hall having capacity of 700 female students, Sheikh Rasel Hall up to 5 floors for 450 students with base of 10 floors, a 5 storied multi-purpose building with base of 10 floors, and a 5 storied residential building for the teachers with the base of 10 floors will be constructed.
Meanwhile, a project worth BDT 51 core 74 lacs named ‘Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University Development’ has been successfully completed on 30th June 2017. The project included a residency for the VC, Jananeta Abdul Mannan Hall for 250 students, Alama Khatun Bhashani Hall for 250 female students, set-up a dormitory for the third & fourth class employees (20 Units), construction of new academic building, construction of electric sub-station, construction of university border wall, purchase of generator, and purchase of an ambulance.
Besides, under the cluster project of ‘Development of Public Universities’, a development work of BDT 37 core 50 lacs has been done successfully. The project included construction of a library cum cafeteria, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall for the 400 students, one 5 storied dormitory of 30 units for the teachers and the officers and upward expansion (3rd & 4th floor) of the 2 storied academic building.
University Registrar Dr. Eng. Moha: Touhidul Islam Said, Due to the vacation of durga puja and lakhsmi puja the anniversary celebration date changed to 20 october from 12 october for ensuring participation of teachers, student, officers and employees. A central committee and different sub-committee is formed for anniversary celebration.
The convener of 20th anniversary celebration and proctor of the university Prof. Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam said, different agenda are taken for anniversary celebration. National and university flag uptake, pigeon, festoon and balloon blow up, cake cutting and rally of joy will be arranged.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Alauddin said that, Since joining as a vice-chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, I have been working relentlessly in academic, administrative and infrastructural development. Before 2008, the infrastructure of this university was disappointment. In this present government the development of this university is satisfactory. After completion of their studies our university students are going abroad for higher education, teachers of various universities, working in important government positions and conducting various business enterprises. I firmly believe that our graduates will play a leading role in the science and technology education “vision-2021” and “Rich Bangladesh-2041” of the Government of Bangladesh. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, I express greetings, thanks and heartfelt gratitude to teachers, students, officials, employees of this university. I call upon all to assist in the welfare activities of this university.
