An alleged forest robber sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight with police in Namajgarh area at Moutola village in Kaliganj upazila early Monday.
The injured robber, Fazlul Haque, 30, is a member of ‘Zia Bahini’ and son of Mamtaz Karikar, a resident of Moutola village of the same upazila.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, said tipped off that a gang of forest robbers was preparing to commit robbery police launched a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on the policemen, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Fazlul injured.
Later, police arrested injured Fazlul while other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.
Police also recovered five crude bombs and a sharp weapon from the spot.
