For lack of money, not merit

The meritorious daughter of a humble rickshaw-puller faces uncertainty over availing herself of the opportunity to attend the Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) due to financial constraints despite meeting all the requirements from her end to get into any medical college in the country, including the MMC.
This year Panna Akhter, a resident of Raicho village in Purbo Borokul union of Hajiganj of the district, got admitted to the MMC obtaining the 672nd position in the admission process, but her family lacks the financial ability to send her away to the college.
Her father Md Dulal Mia and mother housewife Kohinoor Begum sought financial assistance on humanitarian grounds for their daughter to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor through an appeal on Facebook. Her teachers also sought support while providing testimonials on her talent and potential that they sincerely wish to see fulfilled.  
Principal of her alma mater Hajiganj Degree College Masud Ahmed and its Vice Principal Anwar Ullah informed that Panna obtained GPA-5 both in SSC and HSC exams. Hajiganj Degree College authorities bore all her necessary expenditures, including books.
Besides, Belal Hossain, an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics, and his wife Bilkis Begum, also an assistant professor of the Department of Management of the college, bore the expenses for her coaching.
The girl’s father and the mother sought cooperation from the college teachers as well as from the affluent section of society. Besides, the teachers of Panna’s Primary School, High School and College also sought cooperation of the local MP, district administration, upazila administration and the people of all walks of life to help flourish the talent of the meritorious girl.
Principal Masud Ahmed and Vice Principal Anwar Ullah urged the well-to-do people of the society to come forward to provide financial assistance to Panna, so that she can continue her higher studies.
