First shipment of PCT piles to arrive Chattogram Port soon

With a view to increase the capacity of the principal seaport of the country-Chattogram Port, Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) is being built at the estuary of River Karnaphuly.
The works of container berths, Dolpin Jetty, backup yard, flyover in the PCT is progressing fast. As a part of the constructions, the first shipment of concrete piles is expected to arrive Chattogram within few days with pile driving ship.
In the meantime , piling experts of China are continuing their piling test . Work order for 38 meters long and 0.09 meter dia concrete piles was given to a Chinese construction firm based in Malaysia. The 1000 concrete piles will be brought in Chattogram in six shipment, port sources said.
The first shipment of 200 piles is expected to arrived within few days and accordingly total piles will reach Chattogram within the specific times. A PCT Project sources said total 18 percent works of the project completed and completed 29 percent of civil works.
The ground improvement works already completed , and the construction of 420 meters long flyover is progressing fast. Port sources said with a view to increase the capacity of 4.5 lakhTEUs containers annually, the PCT is being built.
Seven contractors under supervision of Bangladesh Army Engineering core are implement the project works. A total of Tk.1,869 c rores will be spent for PCT with own fund of Chattogram Port Authority and in the meantime about Tk.650 crores have been advanced to Army Engineering core against the works.
The 600 meters long PCT will accommodate 3 container vessels of 180 meters long, and one oil tanker in Dolpin Jetty at a time . The total areas of PCT is 32 acres with backup yard of 16 acres . The PCT will have capacity to store 4,500 containers, sources added.
