Shirin Akter Shela was announced the first Miss Universe Bangladesh 2019 on Wednesday night. Born on January 1, 1999, out of the top 10, Shirin Akter Shela came first and was crowned by popular Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen in front of excited crowd in Dhaka.
Shela is a 3rd year student of Department of Physics of Dhaka University. She is hailed from Thakurgaon and has both social and career related ambitions. Alisha Islam and Jessia Islam became 1st and 2nd runner-up positions respectively. This is the first time Miss Universe Bangladesh has been organised in Bangladesh. The winner of the first Miss Universe Bangladesh Shirin Akter Shela will participate in the 68th Miss Universe to be held in USA on December 8, 2019. The journey started from when the registration began at the end of July, 2019. The first round started with 12,000+ registrations then the elimination process started and then over the past three months of boot camp the winner was finally chosen.
Susmita Sen said, “I am super excited to join in this event. It is a momentous occasion because we are making history by sending the first ever representative of Bangladesh to Miss Universe. My heartiest congratulations to the winner and all the participant. This is your moment of glory, seize it.”
Rizwan Bin Farouq is the Chairman of Miss Universe Bangladesh and Sohel A Chaklader Duke, Shafik Islam and Mithun Zaman are Directors of the company. Judges of this grand event were Sushmita Sen, Tahsan Khan, singer, Kaniz Almas, Managing Director, Persona, Tootli Rahman, President, Bangladesh Heritage Craft, Rubaba Dowla, Founder, Pulse Health Care, Farzanah Chowdhury, Managing Director, Green Delta Insurance, Rafiul Islam, Managing Director, Flora Bank, Dr Zareen Delawar Hussain, Athar Ali Khan, former national cricketer.
