Feni central jail is going to be shifted from Master Para in Feni town to Ranirhat, an outskirt on June 2018 after 103 years of its establishment .Jail authority of Feni central jail said, they want to shift the jail by June this year.
Meanwhile, higher authorities also directed us to shift the jail by this time.
The new jail will accommodate about 700 inmates. We have been doing the work relentlessly aimed at shifting the jail by upcoming June.
Eighty percent works have been finished said Kaji Mohammed Badruzuman, Executive Engineer of Feni Public Works Department.
The rest of the work including finishing touch, is going on in full swing, he continued. Feni central Jail Senior Jailer Sankor Majumder said, they are taking preparation to shift the jail by the deadline following directives of the higher authorities.
According to master plan Feni central jail building was constructed at the jail compound for the male and female inmates including hospital, kitchens and mosque.
The foundation stone of Tk one hundred core project was laid in 2013 on 7.15 acre land and it was set to be completed by May 2018. Lastly, Public Works Department got new deadline till June 2018 to finish the work.
The old one was established in 1915 as the sub-jail for Feni and then collector William John constructed it at Master Para in Feni town at a cost of Tk 25 thousand Rupee.
