Farmers in the district are happy with the bumper production of turmeric and its fair price.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 1,200 hectares of land have been brought under turmeric cultivation in the district with a production target of 4,090 tonnes of turmeric.
The farmers have already started selling turmeric in the local market. Turmeric is being sold at Taka 1,000 to 1,200 per maund.
Monowar Hossein, a farmer of Nuton Bondor village under Debiganj upazila of the district said, “I cultivated turmeric on two bighas of land spending Taka 10,000 and already I have got Taka 25,000 by selling turmeric in the local market.”
“I am expecting to get Taka 8,000 more from the remaining yield,” he added.
Agriculture officer M Abdulla-Al-Mamun told BSS that the land
is good for turmeric cultivation and Rajshahi Krishi unnayn Bank, Janata Bank, Sonali Bank gave short term agri-loan to the farmers for turmeric cultivation.
