UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Thursday granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases of violence.
An HC bench comprising Justice Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob passed the order, which will remain effective until police submit charge-sheets in the cases.
Two of the cases were filed with Paltan Police Station while another with Motijheel Police Station. The BNP leader will not be released from jail now as petitions in three others cases filed against him with Paltan thana are pending with the High Court for hearing, Fakhrul’s lawyer
 Ehsanur Rahman told UNB.
On April 16, Mirza Fakhrul secured 6 months’ High Court bail in another case filed with Paltan Police Station on January 4 for allegedly carrying out arson and vandalism.
On the same day, the High Court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why Fakhrul should not be given bail in three others cases.
He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday following a High Court order. On January 6, plainclothes police picked Fakhrul up as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club after nearly 25 hours of stay there following BNP’s announcement to observe January-5 as ‘Democracy Killing Day’, protesting the 10th parliamentary polls held on the day. The BNP leader is now facing 79 cases.
