Ex-MP Rana gets six months bail in a murder case

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday granted bail to former Awami League MP from Tangail-3 constituency Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over the murder of two Jubo League leaders.
The HC bench of Justice A K M Asaduzzaman and Justice S M Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing on a bail petition filed by Rana.
Former MP Rana also filed bail petition in another case filed over the murder of Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed. But,
the government side sought time till next Monday for hearing on the petition.
Deputy Attorney General Md Bashir Ullah appeared in the court on behalf of the state, while Advocate Monsurul Haque Chowdhury stood for the bail seeker Rana.
After the court order, Md Bashir Ullah said, “The HC granted bail to former MP Rana in one case. But we will file appeal against this bail.”
Bhaghil union Jubo League leaders Mohammad Shamim and Mohammad Mamun went missing on July 16, 2012 from the district town.
The following day, Shamim’s mother filed a general diary with Tangail Sadar Police Station. Later, police arrested several suspects over the incident when two of the arrestees— Shahadat Hossain, 16, and Hiron Miah, 27, revealed that both of the Jubo League leaders had been murdered on MP Rana’s orders.
Meanwhile, on January 18, 2013, the Awami League leader Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town. Later, Faruk’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection. Fourteen people, including four brothers of Tangail’s influential Khan family, were accused in the murder case.
Rana surrended to the Tangail Additional District and Session Judge court on September 18, 2016 ending his 22 months fugitive run in the murder cases.
The Awami League leader went into ‘hiding’ after he was accused of killing Freedom Fighter and member of the Awami League district unit Faruk Ahmed.
