Daudkandi Municipality’s former mayor’s wife sued five physicians of Labaid Hospital on the charge of negligence which caused the death of her husband while the court directed the Vice Chancellor of BSMMU to form a three-member committee including a cardiac specialist and submit the probe report.
Magistrate Emdadul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after recording the statement of complainant Mahmuda Ahmed, wife of the former mayor Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
The court fixed July 13 for the presence of the accused and submission of the inquiry report.
The accused physicians are: Labaid Managing Director (MD) Dr A M Shamim, Consultant Dr ATM Shohrab Uzzaman, Consultant and Cardiac Surgeon Dr Md Lokman Hossain, Assistant Cardiac Surgeon Dr Shamim and Dr Emran.
It has been learnt that Nasir Uddin was brought to the hospital on January 01 for treatment. The physicians made several investigations of the patient and said that there was block in his heart. On January 15, Nasir Uddin was operated upon as decided by the physicians. During the process of treatment the condition of the patient deteriorated on April 13 and he died on April 25.
The relations of the patient complained that he died due to the negligence of the physicians.
