Ex-BCL leader held for raping 6 women

Sacked Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Arif Hossain Howlader was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping six women in Bhedarganj Upazila of Shariatpur and releasing the rape scenes on the internet.
Police arrested Ariful, who went on hiding since November, from near the Saikka Bridge on the Jointika river in Goshairhat upazila of the district around 4:30pm.
Goshairhat Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Thander Khairul Alam told media that Arif was arrested after tracking his mobile phone.
Arif, former general secretary of Narayanpur Union Unit of BCL, allegedly installed hidden camera in female washroom and took footage of women taking bath, the ASP told journalists.
Then, he raped the six women after blackmailing them with the video clips and later he uploaded the rape scenes on the internet.
The videos went viral on the cell phones of the villagers since October 15.
One of the victims filed a case against Arif with Bhedarganj Police Station under Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act on November 11.
The same day, Arif was suspended from BCL.
