Mobile courts have been conducting drives for the second day in a row on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital to evict illegal establishments, floating shops and illegally parked vehicles from Bicycle Lane.
Several illegal shops, including a police box set up in front of the parliament building, were demolished during the drive. A few shops were also torn down.
Masud Hossain, Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate, Mohakhali Region (Region-3) of DNCC led the drive from 11:00 am on Monday.
Earlier, on Sunday two vehicles were fined and more than 100 illegal shops were evicted after a two-and-a-half-hour raid at the same spot.
“Illegal parking has lessened in contrast to yesterday. If people are more aware, illegal parking and temporary shops on bicycle lanes can be brought under control,” said Masud Hossain.
He also said that the eviction activities will continue further.
Faridur Rahman Khan Iran, councilor of Mohakhali region who was present during the operation said the City Corporation is always working on the eviction of illegal installations.
“We will conduct a meeting with the hawkers in the area on Tuesday afternoon to raise awareness about illegal parking and shops on Bicycle Lane,” said Faridur Rahman.
