The entire world has recognised the December 30 national election terming it successful, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said on Thursday.
“Neither a country nor an organisation in the world made any negative comment over our election. It is our victory,” Huda made the claim in a post-polls view exchange meeting with high-ups of the Election Commission held at its Agargaon office in Dhaka.
The CEC also highly praised Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed for his role in holding of the 11th parliamentary election in a free, fair and participatory manner.
Claiming that the 11th parliamentary election was not only a challenge for the government, but also for the entire world, Huda said, “Did you see comments have started coming from different corners across the world describing the election as successful?”
“The message of holding a free and fair election has reached every nook and corner across the world and no one rejected the polls,” the CEC claimed.
The CEC also extended special thanks to all staff and officers of the Election Commission for playing a challenging role in holding the December 30 general election in a successful manner.
“The current year will be challenging for us and it will be nice too. Whatever job appears before us will have to be faced with a challenge,” Huda said.
During the meeting, the CEC gave a hint about the upazila election by this year and called upon all the officials of the commission to be prepared to deal the issue with utmost importance.
Claiming that holding national election in Bangladesh a tough job, the CEC said national elections are not held within a day in all the countries across the world but in Bangladesh, a total of 10 crore 41 lakh voters cast their votes in a day and results of the are published at the same time. “We have dealt with the tough job and made it successful. We vested the fruit of our labour to the political leadership and it is their responsibility to take the country forward,” the chief of the constitutional body said.
