National Jute Day observed: Enforcing Jute Packaging Act to protect its industry stressed

Jute Department including Kishoreganj District Administation arranged a colourful rally, discussion , jute fair and prize distributing among the good farmers marking the National Jute Day on Friday.
A discussion meeting was held at local collectorate conference room on Friday morning.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdull-al-Masud presided over the discussion.
It was addressed among others by Additional Director of Agricultural Extension Department Md. Motiur Rahman as special guest, Senior Scientific Officer Md. Abul Basar, Jute Reasarch Center Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Ashraful Alam, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Former Chamber Director Poritosh Paul.
ADC (General) Abdullah-al-Masud said that the government has taken various initatives and projects giving importance to producing multipurpose jute products for the development of the country’s jute a handout quoted.
CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito said the present government will undertake all sorts of measures to make the jute sector a dynamic one. The good days of jute will comeback and its market will extend again.
Later, a colourfull rally was brought out in the town marking the day.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Speakers at a post-rally discussion here on Friday underscored the need for strict enforcement of the Jute Packaging Act to flourish its industry along with protecting the environment from pollution.
They also called for conducting combing operation against polythene use for full-length and successful enforcement of the act that made the use of jute bags in packing food stuff and farm produces mandatory.
Nawhata Jute Mills Limited (NJML) organized the meeting at Nawhata in Paba Upazila of the district in observance of the National Jute Day- 2020. Ayen Uddin, MP, and Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) Rois Ul Alam Mondal addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with NJML Chairman and Chairman of Paba Upazila Parishad Monsur Rahman in the chair.

Lawmaker Ayen Uddin said the district administrations and others concerned should work together for strict use of successful Jute Packaging Act.
He said the present government has adopted an all-out measure to maintain demand and supply of jute bags. If anyone tries to create artificial crisis of the bags he or she must be brought to book instantly.
According to jute packaging act, paddy, rice, wheat, maze, fertilizer and sugar must be packaged in jute bags. If anyone can violate the act for using non-degradable synthetics to package commodities, he or she must be faced a maximum one year jail or fine Taka 50,000 or both.
Referring to the merits and benefits of promoting high yielding jute varieties Rois Ul Alam Mondal opined that necessary measures should be taken for making the farmers habituated in cultivating the varieties for boosting jute production.
He viewed that the growers should be taken forward with modern varieties and technologies relating to the jute cultivation and decomposition for their benefits in the present competitive era. All the field level officials and others concerned should work together to attain the cherished goal, he opined.
