Expressing grave concern over deterioration of the law and order situation gradually, former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Eamjuddin Ahmed said, “Anything can be happened anytime in the country in this crisis situation.”
He made the comment at a discussion organized to
mark the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ in the National Press Club in the city on Thursday.
Swadhinata Forum, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the discussion addressed by BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman and Chairperson’s Adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu, among others. Forum President Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah was in the chair.
Prof Eamjuddin said the non-stop incidents of killing and secret attack prove that the country is pushing towards a very bad situation. The countrymen feel insecure. This situation prevails due to absence of democracy, he said.
He said the countrymen have never felt so much insecurity since 1971, as the people faced such awful situation during the nine months of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
“The educational institutions and all other social platforms have been divided into two parts. For this reason, anybody can be killed anytime anywhere,” said the former DU VC.
He observed that the government is planning to hold election through sending the leaders and workers of the opposition parties to jail. Such election will be nothing but a farce, he added.
