The High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Shakil Ahmed, Head of News at Ekattor TV, a private TV channel of the country, for four weeks in a case filed against him on charge of establishing a sexual relationship with a news presenter given false promises.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Shakil Ahmed.
Lawyer Murad Reza appeared in the hearing on behalf of Shakil, while Barrister M Sarwar Hossain represented the other side.
Earlier on November 7, lawyer Al Masud Begh on behalf of Shakil submitted the bail petition with the HC seeking anticipatory bail.
A news presenter of Ekattor TV on November 4 filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Gulshan police station.
In the case, she also alleged that Shakil Ahmed had also forced her to abort her seven-month-old fetus. On November 5, a Dhaka court set November 23 for submitting the probe report in the case.
